Mercy For Animals
Krista Hiddema
Vice President, Canada
Krista Hiddema serves as Vice President for Mercy For Animals in Canada, leveraging MFA’s influence to strengthen governmental protections for animals and spearheading corporate outreach initiatives, media relations, investigations, and legal advocacy.
She became involved with MFA as a board member, and as time passed she realized her true calling: applying the business skills she had amassed over a quarter century to the work of MFA. She is truly thrilled to be vice president of MFA in Canada, working every day for the most abused animals in world—those raised and killed for food.
She feels deeply fortunate to lead an animal protection organization rated among the world’s top by Animal Charity Evaluators.
Mercy For Animals is an international animal protection organization dedicated to preventing cruelty to farmed animals and promoting compassionate food choices and policies through undercover investigations, legal advocacy, corporate outreach, and educational campaigns.
Krista Hiddema will speak on behalf of MFA, providing an overview of the progress MFA has made in the past two years in Canada and abroad. She will discuss the organization’s global mission to reduce the greatest amount of suffering for the largest number of animals and MFA’s focus on protecting farmed animals—the most abused and exploited animals on the planet. Krista will also outline the broad range of strategic approaches MFA utilizes to expose cruelty, prosecute abusers, and inspire consumers to make compassionate food choices.
Shrouded in secrecy and shielded from public scrutiny, industrial farms raise and kill nearly 700 million animals a year in Canada. But what are they trying to hide? Krista will discuss the brutal industry realities and how a team of MFA undercover investigators, wired with hidden cameras, is risking it all to pull back the curtains of these cruel and violent operations. She will also share the landmark changes achieved through their efforts along the way.
Large corporations have the power to change the lives of billions of animals with a single policy reform. Krista will detail the work of MFA’s corporate outreach department to help businesses large and small adopt meaningful animal welfare reforms while inspiring them to see animals as much more than mere commodities.
MFA is on the frontlines fighting to protect farmed animals. From factory farms to corporate boardrooms, courts of justice to courts of public opinion, MFA is there to speak up against cruelty and for compassion.
