President & Lead Volunteer Rep for Canada
Candace Cornock is the President and lead volunteer representative for Soi Dog Canada – a regionally registered non-profit corporation for Soi Dog Foundation.
From British Columbia Canada, Candace has dedicated her life to rescuing animals, both locally and abroad. After over 3 decades of volunteer work, including aiding several wildlife and domestic animal rescue groups, she became aware of the extreme suffering of dogs in the dog meat trade in Asia. Astounded and devastated by seeing the unfathomable torture happening daily on a massive scale there, it became her life’s passion to help stop it. In 2011 she founded Soi Dog Canada, as part of Soi Dog Foundation.
As the recipient of the Great Non Profits “Top Rated Non Profit” for 2013, 2014, and 2015, Soi Dog Foundation is the largest animal welfare organisation in Asia dedicated to helping stray dogs and cats. Soi Dog Foundation sterilises, vaccinates, administers medical treatment, shelters, promotes adoption of stray dogs and cats in Thailand, and runs education programs on animal welfare. Soi Dog Foundation is also actively working to end South East Asia’s dog meat trade and is expanding within South East Asia, having recently opened an operation in Vietnam.
Soi Dog is dedicated to improving the welfare of dogs and cats in Asia, resulting in better lives for both the animal and human communities, to creating a society without homeless animals, and to ultimately ending animal cruelty. Its core values are compassion, honesty, integrity and transparency.
Every year tens of thousands of dogs are inhumanely transported from Thailand to neighbouring countries where they are tortured and butchered by the most cruel and barbaric methods possible. However, Soi Dog Foundation and the Thai government are actively working to end this appalling practice. As part of the Asian Canine Protection Alliance (ACPA) which is compromised of Soi Dog Foundation; Change for Animals Foundation; The Humane Society International and Animals Asia, Soi Dog has been successful in developing and implementing laws against animal cruelty, but there is still a very long way to go.
